WORMS & DOUBLOONS

Before Casino Royale is even published, Fleming begins on his second 007 novel. Whereas James Bond’s first adventure is composed mostly from memory, Live and Let Die is a more professional, in depth affair with Fleming doing detailed research into his storylines before settling into his writing regime.

His investigations take him into all kinds of weird and wonderful territories. He works with Spink, London’s premier coin dealers to research information on gold doubloons and Spanish treasure, a personal interest of his. He explores the location of his new villain, Mr Big, on a trip to Harlem, USA in December 1952. Most niche of all, he takes Ann to visit a live worm factory whilst on a trip to Florida at the start of 1953.

Live and Let Die enters UK bookshops on 5th April 1954 and earns Fleming global critical praise for his thrilling plotlines and authentic details.
