Meet the Tootings: frazzled Dad, sensible Mum, grumpy Lucy, practical Jem and Little Harry the baby. When Dad is fired and his company car is taken away, Mum buys a broken old camper van, which the family renovates using parts from an ancient racing car which once belonged to the famous Count Zborowski. They soon discover that their new car has a mind of its own and before they know it they are zooming around the world as Chitty comes to life again and is restored to her former glory.
Packed with fun illustrations by Joe Berger, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Flies Again is the riotous sequel to Ian Fleming’s much loved children’s classic, by Frank Cottrell Boyce, the author of the Carnegie Medal-winning Millions.
After losing his job from Very Small Parts for Very Big Machines, Mr. Tooting is given a dilapidated camper van by Mrs. Tooting, his practical and level-headed wife, to keep himself busy with. Along with angsty but highly intelligent teen daughter Lucy, mechanical and helpful middle child Jeremy (Jem) and toddler Little Harry, the Tootings manage to help Chitty find all her missing pieces.
A car that can do it all. Chitty is a custom-built car, lovingly restored by Commander Caractacus Pott with airplane wings, floatation devices, a rocket booster and a mysterious, powerful engine that makes a distinctive ‘chitty chitty bang bang’ when firing up – a signature sound that gives Chitty her unusual name. She has the original registration number GEN 11 and is more than just a machine. Chitty is self-willed and has a mind of her own – often protecting her passengers, or taking them on very unexpected adventures.
