The Chitty Chitty Bang Bang story is retold by the much-loved children’s author Peter Bently and illustrated by picture book star Steve Antony.
Meet the Potts, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang‘s first family. Retired Naval Commander Caractacus Pott is an eccentric, well-meaning inventor who buys an old car using proceeds from the sale of his ingenious whistling sweets. Mimsie is the practical-minded, gentle mother, while kids Jeremy and Jemima are a fun-loving pair who rarely drop a smile. After Caractacus rebuilds Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, the family become adventurers – coming together to face dangers, foil criminals and see new lands with the help of their magical flying car.
‘That’s no way to treat adventures. Never say no to adventures. Always say yes. Otherwise you’ll lead a very dull life’
Caractatus Pott
A car that can do it all. Chitty is a custom-built car, lovingly restored by Commander Caractacus Pott with airplane wings, floatation devices, a rocket booster and a mysterious, powerful engine that makes a distinctive ‘chitty chitty bang bang’ when firing up – a signature sound that gives Chitty her unusual name. She has the original registration number GEN 11 and is more than just a machine. Chitty is self-willed and has a mind of her own – often protecting her passengers, or taking them on very unexpected adventures.
