The Tootings meet Ian Fleming’s original eccentric family, the Potts, in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Over the Moon.
New Chitty owners, the Tootings are stuck in the year 1966! Somebody’s stolen Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and left them trapped in the past. But that’s not their biggest problem… Little Harry has also disappeared, probably kidnapped by whoever taken their magical car. There’s only one solution… the Tootings must find Chitty’s original creators, the Potts family.
Sharing their combined knowledge of how Chitty works, the families stand a chance of rescuing Little Harry and finding the most brilliant car in the world. But a fiendish criminal has different plans, ones that involve flying Chitty Chitty Bang Bang to the moon and putting an explosive scheme into action…
A car that can do it all. Chitty is a custom-built car, lovingly restored by Commander Caractacus Pott with airplane wings, floatation devices, a rocket booster and a mysterious, powerful engine that makes a distinctive ‘chitty chitty bang bang’ when firing up – a signature sound that gives Chitty her unusual name. She has the original registration number GEN 11 and is more than just a machine. Chitty is self-willed and has a mind of her own – often protecting her passengers, or taking them on very unexpected adventures.
Meet the Potts, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang‘s first family. Retired Naval Commander Caractacus Pott is an eccentric, well-meaning inventor who buys an old car using proceeds from the sale of his ingenious whistling sweets. Mimsie is the practical-minded, gentle mother, while kids Jeremy and Jemima are a fun-loving pair who rarely drop a smile. After Caractacus rebuilds Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, the family become adventurers – coming together to face dangers, foil criminals and see new lands with the help of their magical flying car.
‘That’s no way to treat adventures. Never say no to adventures. Always say yes. Otherwise you’ll lead a very dull life’
Caractatus Pott
After losing his job from Very Small Parts for Very Big Machines, Mr. Tooting is given a dilapidated camper van by Mrs. Tooting, his practical and level-headed wife, to keep himself busy with. Along with angsty but highly intelligent teen daughter Lucy, mechanical and helpful middle child Jeremy (Jem) and toddler Little Harry, the Tootings manage to help Chitty find all her missing pieces.
