The book gives the 2002 film its Blades Club setting. In the novel, Bond goes there to dine with M and meet Drax. In the film, Bond, Verity, Miranda Frost and Graves suit up at the club for fencing.
The book lends Kamal Khan’s memorable quip to the 1983 film. Following the backgammon game, Khan says, ‘I should spend the money quickly, Mr Bond’. This is also the first thing said by Drax after losing at bridge at Blades in Moonraker.
The novel gives its title and main villain to the 1979 film. Like in the book, Drax retains a Nazi-inspired motivation to create a master race. A brief scene in which Bond and his heroine are trapped under a rocket is also used.
The novel was first used as the basis for a shelved EON Productions screenplay in 1969. Elements of the plot were repurposed for the 1977 film of The Spy Who Loved Me.
